چکیده

"Furunculosis," a highly infectious disease of the Salmonidae caused by Bacterium salmonicida Lehmann and Neumann (Emmerich and Weibel, 1894; Lehmann and Neumann, 1920; Marsh, 1902; Williamson, 1928; Mackie, et al., 1930; Duff and Stewart, 1933; Fish, 1937), received its name from the boillike lesions that occur in the musculature of the infected fish. The "furuncles'" often break through the skin, discharging a red, pus-like material consisting of bacteria, blood corpuscles, and disintegrated muscle tissue. The lesion is not, strictly speaking, a furuncle or boil since there is no accumulation of white corpuscles at the focus of infection; nor is there any protective tissue reaction, such as characterizes the furuncle in higher animals. The term "furunculosis't has been used to designate this disease by numerous investigators over a period of years, and hence is of sufficient specificity to characterize this pathological condition. Mackie, et al., (1930) isolated Bacterium salmonicida from the ripe ovaries of experimentally infected fish, and Smith (1939) isolated this bacterium from the shell of trout eggs. Plehn (1911), Williamson (1929), and Mackie, et al., (1930) failed to find B. salmonicida inside trout eggs. It is concluded, therefore, that the eggs serve as mechanical carriers, and that the bacteria are found only on, not in the egg. Transfer of contaminated eggs is one of the ways by which furunculosis spreads. The disinfection of contaminated eggs prevents epidemics of the disease in hatcheries. Blake (1930), working for the British Furunculosis Committee, found that phenol and brilliant green harmed fertile trout ova when applied in strengths necessary to destroy B. salmonicida; that potassium permanganate and chlorine were comparatively non-injurious in such concentrations, but were useless in the presence of minute quantities of organic matter; that acriflavine is a suitable disinfectant for contaminated trout eggs. She states, "At a concentration of 1 to 2000, this substance destroys Bacterium salmonicida and is practically non-

Comparison of Huwa-San TR-50 solution efficiency with malachite green and Formalin on fungal contamination control of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) eggs in incubation stage

This research was conducted in autumn and winter of 2016 in Shahid Motahary Coldwater Fishes Genetic and Breeding Research Center. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of Huwa-San TR-50 solution on controlling rainbow trout fungus contamination at incubation stage and comparing its effects with malachite green and formalin. To do this, 27 Californian traphs were used in 9 treatm...

Flavobacterium psychrophilum, Renibacterium salmoninarum and Aeromonas salmonicida

Intra-ovum infection of artificialy contaminated salmonid (rainbow trout or amago salmon) eggs was studied using three fish pathogens (Flavobacterium psychrophilum, Renibacterium salmoninarum and Aeromonas salmonicida). Artificial contamination was performed using egg-surface contamination or immersion-water contamination. For F. psychrophilum and R. salmoninarum, infection occurred by the entr...

Prevention of Flavobacterium psychrophilum Vertical Transmission by Iodophor Treatment of Unfertilized Eggs in Salmonids Akira

We evaluated the eficacy of povidone-iodine treatments in preventing vertical transmission of Flavobacterium psychrophilum in the eggs of masu salmon Oncorhynchus masou, Japanese char Salvelinus pluvius, coho salmon O. kisutch and rainbow trout O. mykiss. When newly spawned eggs were immersion-chalenged with F. psychrophilum (> 10 CFU/mL) and subsequently disinfected with povidone-iodine (50 pp...

Epidemiology of Danish Aeromonas salmonicida subsp. salmonicida in Fish Farms Using Whole Genome Sequencing

Furunculosis, a serious infection caused by the bacterium Aeromonas salmonicida subsp. salmonicida is common in sea-reared rainbow trout production in Denmark. Developing an effective control strategy requires knowledge of the epidemiology, as well as the genomic and virulent variability of the Danish A. salmonicida subsp. salmonicida isolates. To obtain this, the genomes of 101 A. salmonicida ...

Subunit vaccine candidates against Aeromonas salmonicida in rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss

Aeromonas salmonicida subsp. salmonicida is the etiological agent of furunculosis and a major fish health problem in salmonid aquaculture worldwide. Injection vaccination with commercial mineral oil-adjuvanted bacterin vaccines has been partly successful in preventing the disease but in Danish rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss, Walbaum) aquaculture furunculosis outbreaks still occur. In this s...
